When I was designing the C&R’s Kitchen logo, I was trying to come up with something that would represent us both. Somehow beer and cookies just didn’t seem right. I thought about how we both went about cooking and I realized that I always follow the recipe exactly, but Roger never does. Which way is better or does it matter?
If you are just beginning, it is helpful to follow the recipe so you can see how it works. As you improve, you can learn to improvise. Roger can look at a recipe and start switching things out with what we have at hand or make something from scratch. Why can he do this and not I? Why does it bother me so much?
I have thought about this long and hard and realized that I was afraid to experiment, to fail. Not just in cooking but also in my artwork. I want everything to come out perfect the first time but life isn’t perfect is it? Somewhere along the way I became afraid, I lost my sense of adventure, of spontaneity and I want it back! Time to stop researching everything to death and going for it. Albert Einstein had it right “the only source of knowledge is experience” So what if dinner was a flop there is always pasta!
My new mantra is:
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” – Thomas A. Edison
