I love mushrooms, they have a magical quality to them and no I am not talking about magic mushrooms. I love fairies and I am always on the look out for mushrooms in the yard to see if the fairies are about. So I was super excited about our newest adventure, our very own mushroom farm!
Over the years Roger has found many different mushrooms to try out. Nowadays you can easily get white, portabella, oyster, shiitake, porcini and other stinky and weird ones. Yes I think they are stinking but despite the smell they are absolutely delicious in a recipe.
While I was leery of these new edible mushrooms that Roger was constantly bringing home, I must admit he has made some great meals with them. His mushroom soup while rich was to die for. I was so excited to find fresh weird looking mushrooms at the market the other day; I had to buy them to see what concoction he would come up with.
Growing up around mushroom farms I was always extremely grateful for the wind. It is not a smell you can easily forget, so I was a bit apprehensive about making a stinking mess in the house but I was willing to give it a shot. Eureka no smell; however, you know when the mushrooms are ready when the area around the farm is covered in a white cloud of mushroom spores. This miniature farm was the perfect size for us to try out.
So were does one find this portable mushroom farm? Well Amazon of course! Roger finds the wildest things on Amazon sometimes. I must admit I love Amazon; it is my go to place for those hard to find items. One of the hardest things about moving to Florida was the lack of selection available to us. I missed China Town, or the strolling through the Asian aisles at the grocery store. Amazon has helped us find the products we were missing and many new ones.
